THE WORK BEHIND THE MESSAGE
Before the Stage Came the Science.
Dr. Joe’s work began in health science, university classrooms, and programs built around the questions affecting people’s actual lives.
Dr. Joe earned his Ph.D. in Health and Human Performance, with a minor in neuropsychology and a specialization in women’s health and sexual wellness. From 2005 through 2017, he taught at Middle Tennessee State University. His courses ranged from health and wellness to adult fitness education, and he later created a female-focused Women’s Personal Conditioning course.
Dr. Joe has also guest lectured at Vanderbilt, Princeton, Catholic University of America, and other universities. His academic work provided the foundation. Years spent listening to students, women, men, couples, and audiences showed him where that knowledge was needed most.

MORE THAN CREDENTIALS
Science Is Only Part of the Story.
Dr. Joe’s perspective comes from academic research—and a lifetime of teaching, coaching, listening, marriage, and family. His work was not formed inside one classroom or academic discipline.
It also draws from his experience as a fitness professional, personal trainer, Division I college football player and coach, husband, father, and grandfather.
Each role gave him another view of how health, identity, attraction, relationships, and culture intersect in everyday life.

WOMEN’S HEALTH & SEXUAL WELLNESS
He Started by Listening
Years spent working directly with women shaped Dr. Joe’s understanding of the health, cultural, and relationship pressures affecting their lives.
Beginning in the 1990s, Dr. Joe worked primarily with women as a fitness professional and personal trainer. That experience gave him a long-term view of the physical, emotional, and cultural pressures women face through different stages of life. At Middle Tennessee State University, he created a female-focused Women’s Personal Conditioning course and a campuswide sorority wellness program. He worked directly with hundreds of students and presented wellness and healthy-sexuality workshops to thousands of sorority women. His work with sororities earned him recognition as Greek Faculty Member of the Year in both 2010 and 2016.
